[Tentang] Mitsu Galant VR4

Mitsubishi first introduced the Galant VR4 in 1987 to be its Group A rally weapon. FIA rules at the time required Mitsubishi to sell a minimum of 2500 units of the competing car in a year, thus making it available to the public. The car came with a 2.0 litre twin cam turbocharged engine and in its strongest variation produced 237hp and 224lbs of torque and full time 4wd. For quite a big car it managed spritely performance with a 0-100km/h time of 7.3 seconds and a quarter mile time of 15.3 seconds.

The car was quite successful in rallying and did win a number of events, however due to its rather large dimensions was replaced with the now legendary Lancer series. The VR4’s legacy lived on in the Lancer Evo series as its 4G63T engine and transmission was passed down and was used right up to the Lancer Evo 9 (with the engine being updated with every version). The 4G63T from the original VR4 has also been very popular with local car modifiers due to its relatively cheap halfcut price and also that it can be fitted into any Proton wira, putra and perdana without much modifications needed to the engine mounting. The 4g63T block and internals are know to be very tough and can take quite a beating, this coupled with the fact that there are tons and tons of aftermarket performance products for the engine make it a darling with the hardcore tuners. VR4 engines are known to be able to produce 300-400hp without too much modification done.

Currently an early nineties Galant VR4 sells for about RM15,000 to RM30,000 depending on the condition of the car and what modifications have been done. If your looking to have some fun with a turbo car on the cheap, you cant go wrong with a classic like the Galant VR4.
